Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the Canadian Youth Assembly?
The Canadian Youth Assembly is a federal non-profit organization that has three major focuses: education, volunteerism and creating dialogue.
Through such programs as our Model Parliament we are educating youth about their local and national communities. We are creating volunteer opportunities and making known those available through our work with institutions and other organizations and are providing enticing opportunities for those who have never been involved in their community before. Finally, through creating a dialogue with youth and their government we are fostering a greater understanding and stronger relationship with one another.
What are the age ranges for the CYA?We are working with youth generally between the ages of 14 and 25. We do have projects which reach beyond these ranges, however.

What is the process for registration?
You may register for the CYA elections at http://elections.cya-ajc.ca
Is this a simulation Parliament?
Not in the slightest. The Canadian Youth Assembly is run and shaped by the youth of Canada. We run several programs, such as CYA! Volunteering, CYA Elections, the CYA Model Parliament, and CYA Blogs.
While our elections do allow for youth to form their own parties, they are not politically affiliated. The organization itself, though supported, is not controlled or politically involved. We have taken special precautions in our bylaws to ensure that the CYA does not become politically affiliated, aligned, or overly influenced by a political body.
How many members do you have?
At this time we have approximately 650 members (excluding volunteers) from coast to coast to coast.
How is the CYA structured?
The CYA is a 177 seat assembly for youth 14-25. We will be holding our elections via Single Transferable Vote (STV). Elected youth will become Youth Representatives (YRs) in their local riding. They will be the voice for the youth in their riding within the organization.
Our volunteers are broken into several groups from Administration to Human Resources. Volunteers may be of any age.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of 9 individuals (not age restricted) whose role is to plan the long term goals of the CYA.
Is the CYA incorporated or in any way legally recognized?
We are a federally incorporated non-profit organization.
Will the CYA be working with other organizations?
The CYA is willing to work with just about any and every organization or institution that would contribute to better representing the youth of Canada.
Can I get community service hours for volunteering with the CYA?
Yes. We have issued them before, but please ensure with your school's administration that your involvement would be allowed. We have experienced cases where helping with CYA parties does not qualify, but helping as a CYA volunteer would.
